Not my favorite place, but this makes me appreciate it more…
I’m not a big fan of big cities, period. I lived in LA from my 12th birthday in 1967 until February of 1970. I moved there not long after the Watts riots, and Bobby Kennedy and MLK Jr. were murdered during the time I was there. Definitely NOT the best time for a boy who was frequently mistaken for White to be living in an almost all Black ghetto neighborhood!
I still have family there, but have only been back myself a couple of times on field trips for my old job. It’s funny though, I just used the Google Maps satellite view to look down on the neighborhood that I last lived in just off Florence and Crenshaw. It’s been a very long time, but I can’t see where much has changed at all!
