The 40th Anniversary of Sesame Street
Today, November 10th, is the fortieth anniversary of the series premier of Sesame Street. Since its creation, the show has helped to shape the basic education of children throughout the world in an entertaining manner, including myself. It could be argued that Sesame Street was the one of the first and most successful infotainment shows in media history. For the past week, Google has been celebrating this prodigious anniversary by highlighting characters from the series on their homepage; below is my favorite, Count von Count with his “600813″.
The show’s history has been a treasure trove of priceless moments including the following clip called ABCDEF… Cookie Monster!
From 1972. Sesame Street had lots of cute segments with the Muppets interacting with real life kids, but this is one of my favorites. Kermit the Frog tries to sing the alphabet song with a girl named Joey, but she keeps teasing him by singing “Cookie Monster” instead of various letters.
Since its inception, many celebrities have visited the show, lending their voice to public broadcasting and campaigning for children literacy. The following video is one of the most popular with Feist singing a reworked version of her hit song 1, 2, 3, 4.
In this clip, Feist sings Sesame Street’s version of 1,2,3,4.
Sesame Street is a production of Sesame Workshop, a nonprofit educational organization which also produces Pinky Dinky Doo, The Electric Company, and other programs for children around the world.
