Brian Cox and the LHC on Colbert
The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is up and running, has passed its initial tests, and is in the process of cooling down to 1.9 K, in an effort to finally reach full energy. There is vast speculation about what will be produced in the 7 TeV particle collisions, including the fallacious suggestions of black holes and the end of the world. Hopefully, they will confirm the existence of the Higgs boson (which is theorized to give matter its mass), if they do not, it may suggest that the Standard Model needs to be revised; it’s a very exciting time. In the first video Colbert addresses the LHC time travel theory:
Following that, physicist Brian Cox visited the Colbert Report in order to publicize his book Why Does E=MC^2 and reflect on the conspiracy theories associated with the LHC. It’s a rather entertaining interview, in which he declares that the black hole and time travel theories are “bollocks”.
