The Lechuguilla Cave
This is one of my favorite segments from the BBC series Planet Earth. It’s the Lechuguilla Cave in Carlsbad Caverns National Park, New Mexico. It has over 120 miles of passageways and is the deepest known cavern in the United States. The cave has restricted access due to the delicate nature of the gypsum crystals that are housed within its depths. However, fortunately for public, the BBC was able to shot the following footage of the cave in HD, which culminates with images of the stunning Chandelier Ballroom.
Even there, extremophiles thrive.
