DIY Cymatics

The following video is an excellent example of what can be done to get people interested in science, even in the comfort of your own home. The combination of a non-Newtonian fluid (cornstarch and water) and amplified sound enables one to visualize the resulting vibrations. The resulting effect – called cymatics – produces some interesting and extraordinary shapes; one might even call what’s produced “art”.
