Bobby McFerrin Demonstrates the Power of the Pentatonic Scale

Bobby McFerrin provides an interactive lesson on the pentatonic scale. It’s a fun and educational presentation; how often does a musician get to play an audience.

Via Skepchick:

Bobby McFerrin demonstrates the power of the pentatonic scale, using audience participation, at the event “Notes & Neurons: In Search of the Common Chorus”, from the 2009 World Science Festival, June 12, 2009.

In a similar appreciation for the collective chorus, I once had the opportunity to hear the Star Spangled Banner sung by a stadium of 30,000+ people without any direction; that was one of the most moving and powerful musical performances I have ever experienced.
