Extremophiles
We continue to find life in the most humanly uninhabitable regions of Earth; places where we once thought life was impossible. Some organisms have even been able to survive the extremely harsh environment of space. This abundance and adaptability of life is currently one of the most fascinating areas in biology, as it presents new avenues by which to approach molecular engineering and medicine. In the video below it is emphasized that, in addition to bacteria, viruses can also live in these extreme environments.
Professor Richard Hoover studies extreme weather conditions to find new extremophiles – micro organisms that can live in extreme weather conditions and climates. Watch this interesting video from BBC Horizon show ‘We Are the Aliens’ to discover the weird life forms that populate frozen penguin guana, nuclear fuel rods, and hot water.
